130,000+
trees planted
Trees aid in managing soil erosion, absorbing “greenhouse” gases and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. Forested areas provide a canopy and habitat for wildlife and a welcome respite for city dwellers.
40 Years!
ESTABLISHED IN 1979
Forty years as an all-volunteer non-profit is a source of pride for us. It’s also a testament to great friends and partners who know how to give their time to educate, source, distribute and plant in the Ohio Valley.

“OVFF was our local partner to plant hundreds of blight-resistant American chestnut trees at the Edge of Appalachia Preserve. OVFF provided much needed labor and expertise.”

WE COLLABORATE & educate
Over the years, we’ve partnered with large and small like-minded organizations to improve our forest canopy in the Ohio Valley.
In 2017, OVFF planted trees with The Nature Conservancy on the Edge of Appalachia Preserve. Martin McAllister of the Nature Conservancy shared: “The Nature Conservancy is a world-wide conservation organization whose mission is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. This important work could not be accomplished without numerous and diverse partnerships, such as with the Ohio Valley Forestry Fellowship. A project to plant hundreds of blight-resistant American chestnut trees at the Edge of Appalachia Preserve in April of 2017 is a perfect example. Not only did OVFF provide much needed labor and expertise, but they also helped instruct urban youth in the planting and proper care of tree seedlings – a fitting way to pass the torch of conservation to the next generation.”
FREE SEEDLING GIVEAWAYS
Funds raised each year are used to purchase seedlings for distribution. OVFF partners with schools, libraries and civic organizations to put seedlings in the hands of children across the Ohio Valley, along with planting and nurturing instructions. Money is raised from foundation grants as well as individual donations. $36 allows us to distribute 100 seedlings to children on Arbor Day!
“Our students are very excited to be a part of your reforestation efforts. Thanks for the trees!”
“OVFF’s knowledge and experience gives us peace of mind that the trees we put in the ground will have high survivorship.”
